Natural Hair: FAD Or FAB? What's Your Opinion? (thumbnail)

So the other day I did it. I took out the sew-in that I had been holding on to since November. I hated to do it, honestly. I had grown accustomed to the “low-maintenance” hair style that afforded me the luxury of getting up and jetting out the door at the drop of a dime, since I didn’t have to spend and hour doing my hair.

I can’t say that I was happy about it, but I did it. It was time enough, my weave (courtesy of Super Weave Express) had done me justice, but it is now the New Year (2015) so I elected to not only let that sew-in go, but I took another bold step. I told myself “self, I’m not going to get a perm.” Not only was I not going to get a perm (I have a “love-hate” relationship with the thought of going “natural”…

2015 Hair Goals

It’s a new year and as such I expect more from myself when it comes to my hair. I’ve been natural for 12 years now and I’ve seen many sides of hair success and failures too.

For the last three years or so, I have been blonde from the front to my crown. I love it. However without proper maintenance I have experienced breakage and loss. To whom much is given, much is required. With that being said, I’ve cut out most of my blonde — well wherever it hadn’t already broken off.

My 2015 Hair Goals are as follows:
1. To reform to a maintenance routine that promotes protection and retention.
2. Use little to no heat for the year – maybe straightening 2x out of the year for trim.
3. Regular trims and deep conditioning

Three is all that I need. Look at my hair from 2012.

And now that I’ve cut the blonde – I now have bangs lol and the rest is my wig.

This week, my #WCW is dedicated to SZA (pronounced Sizza). She’s the first lady of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), which is the label that houses some of the dopest artists in the game right now like Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q. I listened to her song “Babylon” featuring Kendrick Lamar and thought to myself Wow, this girl is amazing! As a natural hair girl, my eyes grew wide when I saw her huge, curly fro. I mean, seriously?
